Terrorists carried out attacks in various locations across Mali, according to the country's army. Gunfire and helicopters were heard early this morning outside the capital, Bamako, near Kati military base and the international airport. Similar scenes were reported in the towns of Sevare and Kidal, and in the city of Gao.

Islamic militants from al-Qaida-linked JNIM and Tuareg-led Azawad Liberation Front jointly attacked Bamako airport and four other Malian cities in one of the largest recent coordinated assaults. The Malian army stated that the situation was under control and that several hundred assailants were killed.

An al Qaeda affiliate and Tuareg rebels claimed responsibility for coordinated attacks across Mali, in one of the boldest operations insurgents have mounted in their campaign against the military-led government. Mali’s army said it killed 'several hundred' assailants and repelled the assault, which hit multiple sites in or near the capital, Bamako.
