Each monk was carrying about 11 lbs (5kg) of cannabis concealed inside false compartments in their luggage. The monks had just returned from Thailand, and the drugs were hidden in specially prepared luggage with false bottoms, packed alongside school supplies and sweets. Sri Lanka Police arrested 22 individuals dressed in robes who appeared to be monks at the Bandaranaike International Airport for smuggling a massive haul of Kush and Hashish valued at over Rs. 1.1 billion. Each individual was allegedly carrying more than 5 kilograms of drugs, totaling over 120 kilograms. The drugs were hidden inside false compartments of suitcases, concealed alongside school supplies and food. The suspects are currently in custody and are scheduled to be produced before the Negombo Magistrate's Court for legal proceedings.
