On Friday evening, four major airports in the Washington, D.C., region halted all flights for over an hour due to a strong chemical odor affecting air traffic controllers. The FAA reported the source of the smell as the Potomac TRACON, a radar facility managing air traffic for the region. Approximately 25% to one-third of all departures were delayed. Flights resumed after 7 p.m. ET, but a ground stop preventing landings remained active for some time.
