Bellarmine Mugabe was arrested in February following the shooting of a 23-year-old man at his home in Johannesburg.
Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, the youngest son of the late former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, entered a plea deal in South Africa to avoid an attempted murder charge. He admitted to pointing a gun-like object at someone and violating immigration laws by entering and staying in South Africa unlawfully. He and his cousin, Tobias Mugabe Matonhodze, had been in custody since mid-February after Sipho Mahlangu, an employee at the residence, was shot and hospitalized.
Bellarmine Mugabe and his co-accused, Tobias Matonhodze, have pleaded guilty to multiple charges. Mugabe has admitted to pointing a firearm and being illegally in the country. Matonhodze admitted to attempted murder, shooting Sipho Mahlangu twice in the back. The matter will be back in court on 24 April 2026.
